OUR PROCESS

All microgreens and petite herbs are grown using sustainable and natural methods.

Growing Medium

The soilless growing medium used is a balanced combination of coco coir and perlite. This combination, with its great water retention and release capabilities, creates the perfect base for seedlings to thrive. The main objective is to maintain a sterile and pathogen free environment, therefore no compost has been added. Instead, carefully selected non-synthetic fertilisers and microorganisms are added to the mix. This creates the perfect growing environment to consistently produce nutritious and high quality micros.

Seeds Used

The seeds are sourced from various local suppliers across South Africa. It is very important to use high quality untreated seeds that have high germination rates. This results in microgreens and petite herbs that are healthy and vibrant.

Planting and Germination

Different planting densities are used to give the desired results for varying micro varieties. Once the seeds have been sown, the trays are placed inside a germination chamber where they will spend a few days germinating. Once established they will be moved into the light (natural and assisted lighting is used).

Watering

Currently, the use of tap water is the only viable option for clean and safe water. A dechlorinating method is used to remove the unwanted chlorine present in the water. When necessary, PH balancing is done to ensure optimum nutrient absorption by the micros.

Quality Control

This is a process that takes place throughout the growing cycle, ensuring happy micros at all times. Crop failures do happen from time to time but after years of experience growing micros this happens very seldomly. Every tray is checked methodically for any problems before they are packaged.

Packaging

Packaging is always important for presentation purposes. However, our packaging serves the purpose of protecting the micros and at the same time protecting the environment. All packaging used can be composted and all used trays can be returned so that they can be used again and again. Disclaimer: The glue used is not compostable but biodegradable and compostable alternatives are being sought.

HOW TO ORDER

All microgreens and petite herbs are grown to order, ensuring consistent supply and quality. Weekly recurring orders by means of an online form is the preferred method used. Fulfillment of new orders is dependent on the lead time, which will be indicated once you place an order. Delivery days are updated monthly with multiple being made available every week. The order form is mainly used as a growing guideline, therefore orders can be paused, changed or cancelled anytime.
